The dining center of gravity in Reston used to sit at the fountain on Market Street. Walk out of an evening now and you feel the pull south, toward Sunset Hills Road, where a set of doors that were plywood a year ago are cutting ribbons on a monthly cadence. If your weekend routine still ends at the same three places it did in 2024, you're missing about a dozen new rooms, most of them within a fifteen-minute walk of each other.
Here is what has actually opened, what is about to, and what the shape of it means for the way you spend a Saturday in the Hunter Mill District.
The map has three centers now, not one
For most of the last decade, "meeting in Reston" meant the original Town Center grid around Market Street and Democracy Drive. That is no longer a complete answer. The build-out of the expansion informally called RTC Next has added a second cluster along Sunset Hills Road and Inspiration Street, and a third is forming a mile east near Wiehle Metro at Reston Station. Three walkable clusters, three different vibes, one Silver Line stop between them.
The practical consequence: when a friend says "let's meet in Reston," the follow-up question is now "which end?"

Toastique confirmed its grand opening at RTC Next on March 7, 2026, at 11900 Inspiration Street just south of Reston Town Center, and the bakery next door followed a few weeks later. Paris Baguette opened Wednesday, April 15, at the RTC Next project at the intersection of Sunset Hills Road and Town Center Parkway.
The pace of the openings matters more than any single menu. Three restaurants in six weeks is what it looks like when a mixed-use expansion crosses the threshold from "under construction" to "somewhere you actually go."
The Clarity move is the real signal
If you want to understand why RTC Next feels different from a normal shopping-center rollout, look at Clarity. The Vienna original at 442 Maple Avenue has been drawing foodies since 2015 and is not the kind of restaurant that opens a second location lightly. Clarity is an award-winning restaurant from Vienna opening its second location in Reston, and the upscale American restaurant is targeting a May 1 opening at the Reston Town Center.
The Reston location will feature a six-course tasting menu along with specialty menus for large parties, and the kitchen is highlighting a Smoked Wagyu Cheeseburger with smoked chili cheddar on a house-made brioche. The Vienna room is a special-occasion booking; the Reston room appears built to add a walk-in tier and a to-go program on top of the tasting-menu spine.
There is a second Clarity-adjacent story behind this. The Clarity management group acquired the Gaithersburg location of Dogfish Head Alehouse earlier in 2026 and is opening a second Dogfish Head at Reston Town Center this fall. One restaurant group, two very different rooms, both landing in RTC Next inside twelve months. That is not a lease — that is a bet.
Reston Row is the third front
A mile east, at the Wiehle-Reston East side of the Silver Line, a separate developer is doing something similar under a different name. Comstock signed leases for the Reston Row District including Noku Sushi at 1800 Reston Row Plaza, and Comstock and Clyde's Restaurant Group announced Ebbitt House at 1860 Reston Row Plaza, describing it as the first expansion tied to Old Ebbitt Grill, with a large indoor dining room and patio.
For anyone who has taken out-of-town guests to Old Ebbitt Grill downtown, the idea that a Clyde's-run sibling is opening one Metro stop from their front door is worth registering. The official Ebbitt House site states it is opening at Reston Station.
Two things about Reston Row worth keeping in mind. First, "walkable from RTC Next" it is not; plan on driving, biking, or hopping the Silver Line one stop. Second, dates on both sides of Reston move. Construction and restaurant openings can shift, and dates should be treated as targets unless the restaurant itself publishes a firm opening date.
What this changes for a normal Saturday
The old Reston Saturday had a familiar shape. Farmers market at the pavilion, coffee at one of two places on Market Street, a walk on the W&OD, dinner at a rotation of maybe five restaurants. The new geography adds options without breaking the rhythm:
- Breakfast that isn't a sit-down commitment. Toastique and Paris Baguette both opened as grab-and-go rooms rather than table-service brunch. If you want a pastry before the W&OD instead of a two-hour brunch after it, that gap is now filled inside RTC Next.
- A middle-tier sushi option. Kusshi Sushi officially opened in April 2026 at the base of the new Fannie Mae building, taking a different approach from the ultra-exclusive, reservation-only sushi concepts popping up in other areas. Reston has had high-end omakase and mall-tier sushi. A walk-in room between those two poles is new.
- A pub that used to be a Falls Church and Fairfax memory. Dogfish Head's Opportunity Way location will offer American classics like burgers, pizza, wings, and sandwiches, and marks the business's return to Virginia after previous locations in Falls Church and Fairfax closed. If you remember the Falls Church original, that is the same brand, back.
- An Italian room that has not existed west of D.C. Grazie Nonna's planned Reston location will be its first venture outside of D.C., and owner Casey Patten and chef Gerald Addison styled the restaurant after neighborhood Italian-American eateries seen throughout the northeastern U.S. According to a site plan, the restaurant and its deli share a 5,609-square-foot corner suite on the ground floor of the Marriott's AC Hotel and Residence Inn.
The point is not that any single one of these is a destination in the way the original Clarity is. The point is that stitched together, they make the RTC Next end of Town Center a place you actually stroll, rather than a place you drive to for one reservation.
The rest of the week still runs on the old anchors
New rooms do not replace the routines that already work. Vienna's town programming still runs on the same Tuesday-and-Friday pattern it always has. The Town Green at 144 Maple Avenue E. remains the center of Vienna's summer programming, with children's programs on Tuesday mornings and concerts on select Friday evenings. The W&OD still connects Vienna and Reston like a spine, though NOVA Parks has announced possible short closures during July and August 2026, with those interruptions concerning the Arlington segment, so the Vienna-to-Reston stretch is largely unaffected.
One quiet piece of infrastructure to watch: Vienna is scheduled to receive five Capital Bikeshare stations in spring or summer 2026, including planned locations near the W&OD Trail, the Vienna Community Center, Navy Federal Credit Union, 444 Maple Avenue W, and Patrick Street SE near Park Street, and the Town's project page still describes installation as anticipated. If those go in on schedule, the Vienna-to-Reston move on a Saturday morning gets easier by another notch.
For anyone who wants the redevelopment picture straight from the county, Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter Alcorn hosted a summer town hall on Monday, July 20, at Vienna Town Hall, with updates on several high-profile projects including the new Vienna-Carter Library, the Reston Town Center North redevelopment, and the proposed Crescent Apartments redevelopment, which includes the possible relocation of the Reston Community Center at Lake Anne. RTC Next is the visible half of a larger shift; the North redevelopment and the Crescent proposal are the next chapters.
A note before you drive over
Two practical caveats worth carrying with you. First, check hours before you go. New restaurants keep soft-launch schedules for weeks, and lunch service usually lags dinner by a month. Second, the addresses matter. RTC Next is not the original Town Center. If your GPS wants to send you to Market Street, override it: the new addresses cluster on Inspiration Street, Sunset Hills Road, and Opportunity Way, and parking is different.
